Member Spotlight: Richard S. Burns & Company – Philadelphia, PA

If you have ever had the pleasure of receiving a tour of the Richard S. Burns recycling facility in Philadelphia, PA you will have no doubt as to why they received the 2025 CDRA Recycler of the Year award. Founded in 1968, this family owned and operated business continues to push the envelope in every area of their operation. Under the leadership of Allen Burns, they are constantly thinking out of the box and will not hesitate to create something or set a process aside if it is not getting the results they want. I was so impressed by that. So many businesses make an investment and even though they are not getting the desired results, because they paid for it and installed it, they continue to operate at a lower level. Not Alan Burns. He will rethink it, redesign it, and build it from scratch if he needs to, but he will not hesitate to pull something out, even complete sorting lines, set them to the side and redesign his entire operation to get the results he wants.

It is because of this constant and never ending improvement that they have become a leader in the C&D recycling industry.  They continue to innovate with one of their up and coming products Tommy Carts that provide an alternative to traditional C&D dumpsters. When it comes to hauling, sorting, creating end markets, software design, maintenance and even painting containers, Allen Burns takes it to a new level. For more information about Richard S. Burns & Company or Tommy Carts, they can be reached at burnscompany.net.
