Some of the best stories in our industry come from operators who look at their own yard, see something that could work better, and decide to build it themselves. That is Jody Salyards’ story, and it is what makes both Integrated Sorting Technologies and Recycle Management LLC such interesting members of the CDRA community.
Jody is the CEO and owner of Recycle Management LLC, headquartered in Harrisonburg, Virginia, with an auto shredder yard and a network of six feeder yards operating across the state. He has spent over two decades in the recycling business, and he runs those yards every day. Along the way he saw an opportunity to solve a problem for other operators, and in Harrisonburg he founded Integrated Sorting Technologies (IS) to do exactly that.
Jody’s recycling roots actually go back to the C&D side of the industry. Before building out the metals operation, he started as a hauler and processor of C&D waste. That early hands-on experience shaped how he thinks about material recovery today, and it is part of why both Recycle Management and IS approach every project with a practical, in-the-yard mindset rather than a purely theoretical one.
IS is a custom sorting equipment company that designs and builds mobile and stationary eddy current separators, screens, AI induction systems, XRT sorting systems, and custom picking stations, conveyors, and feeders. What sets IS apart is who is behind it. In Jody’s own words, “We run this equipment every day in our own operations. That gives us intimate knowledge of maintenance, installation and real-world performance. When we identify improvements in our yards, we implement them immediately and share those upgrades directly with our customers.” That kind of operator-backed engineering is rare, and it is exactly why customers turn to IS when they need practical, high-performance solutions that will hold up in a working yard.
The team at IS, led by President Keith Corvin alongside Jody, has built a reputation for practical, ready-to-deploy solutions. When a customer needs to improve recovery quickly without major infrastructure changes, IS can often pull equipment straight from inventory and get it into the yard fast. That responsiveness comes directly from Jody’s experience as an operator. He knows how expensive downtime is, and he knows what it means to have a machine sitting in your yard that is not pulling its weight.
Between Recycle Management and Integrated Sorting Technologies, Jody represents the best of what our industry can do when experienced operators put their knowledge to work solving problems for their peers.
