The BDC Business Group, based in Memphis, TN is a special company and not one of our typical CDRA members. From the minute you walk into their massive facility, you are embraced with their sense of community and the drive to positively impact the people in it. BDC Group, run by Andy Kizee, focuses on revitalizing their Binghampton neighborhood through programs in housing, economic growth, job training, and social services. Proving hands-on training and support to those facing employment barriers, they teach job and life skills through recycling. Their operation focuses on hard to recycle items such as electronics, streetlamps, mattresses and HVAC units, but are working on expanding into a new facility that would process and recover construction and demolition material. 

Unlike most recycling facilities whose origins are usually linked to hauling and waste management, BDC is founded on community service and helping human kind. From this mission they have been able to provide needed recycling services for their community as they directly tackle employment barriers with low-entry transitional jobs, skill-building support and career coaching. It was a privilege to see first hand how Andy and his team are making a difference one person at a time. As they work on bringing their new C&D recycling facility online, it will be exciting to watch them grow.
