The CDRA August Shingle Recycling Committee meeting focused on updates to the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) project for recycled asphalt shingles and a presentation on rejuvenators for RAP and RAS mixtures. Vicki Rybl from WAP Sustainability presented preliminary LCA results showing that transportation of shingles to recyclers and energy use for processing were the most significant contributors to environmental impacts, with the oversight committee currently evaluating the draft results. Jenna Bowers from Ingevity discussed the use of rejuvenators to restore the rheological properties of aged asphalt binders, sharing case studies demonstrating how rejuvenators can help balance mix designs with high RAP and RAS contents. The meeting also covered updates to the best practices guide, the upcoming Shingle Recycling Forum in Raleigh, and a new sticker contest aimed at promoting proper lithium-ion battery recycling to prevent dumpster fires.
