August Aggregates Committee Meeting

The Aggregates Recycling Committee meeting featured a presentation by Mark Krause on “Crushing 101,” focusing on the fundamentals of crushing equipment and their applications in recycling. Mark explained the differences between compression and impact crushers, detailing how they work, their reduction ratios, and the importance of proper feed preparation and screening. He used videos to demonstrate the operation of jaw and cone crushers, as well as impactors, and discussed the challenges of processing recycled materials like concrete and asphalt. The presentation covered the effects of material type, steel contamination, and machine settings on crushing efficiency. Attendees asked questions about achieving cubical product shape, handling specific materials like asphalt shingles and granite slabs, and using magnets and metal detectors to manage steel contamination. The conversation ended with announcements about upcoming committee meetings and industry events, including the CDRA Annual Conference and a sticker contest to raise awareness about lithium-ion battery disposal.
